Kanex Review
Kanex is an electronic accessory company that makes products for Apple, iOS, PC, and Android. Today, we’re reviewing Kanex and taking a closer look at the products they have to offer.
What is Kanex?
Kanex describes itself on its About page as “a group of thinkers, creators, technologists, go-getters and doers”. Once you get down to it, you’ll learn that Kanex makes accessories for popular electronic products – including mostly Apple devices as well as Android and PC devices.
Some of the company’s best-known products include the GoPower Watch, which is a portable battery for the Apple Watch that lets you charge your watch 6 times over while on-the-go. They also make a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.
Other company products include adapters, keyboards, covers, and more. Whether you need DisplayPort to HDMI 4K adapters or a USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapter, Kanex wants to be the company you trust to transfer data to and from different platforms.
Kanex Products
Kanex sells dozens of different products across all different categories. It separates its product lineup into the following categories:
-Mac: USB-C, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt, Keyboard, Mini DisplayPort, and HDMI devices and adapters.
-Cables: Premium Lightning, Portable Lightning, Lightning, and Audio cables.
-Power: Car Chargers, Wall Chargers, and Portable Batteries.
Two of the company’s most popular devices are the Apple Watch Battery and the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Below, you’ll find a brief overview of each one.
Apple Watch Battery
The Apple Watch Battery, as you probably guessed from the name, is a portable battery for Apple Watch. It can charge your Apple Watch 6 times over using an “integrated inductive charger”. You can charge your Apple iPhone 6s 1.5 times.
Kanex actually claims you can charge your Watch “up to” 10 times on a single charge, although they officially advertise 6 full charges.
Using the charger, you can charge your Apple Watch and iPhone simultaneously.
Kanex’s Apple Watch Battery charger is scheduled to launch in June 2016. Pricing details have not yet been released.
Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter
Kanex makes an adapter that transfers Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2. That means you can connect existing Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt devices to any new Thunderbolt 3-enabled computer.
The adapter also provides up to 20Gbps throughput, which is four times the max bandwidth of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and twice as fast as the original Thunderbolt.
The adapter is also launching in June 2016. However, with the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, we know that the price will be $99.95. It’s currently available for preorder from Kanex.
GoPower USB-C
The GoPower USB-C is a portable battery designed for your MacBook. It contains a 15,000 mAh portable battery that promises to deliver a full charge to your USB-C MacBook. You can also use it to charge non-MacBook devices, including Androids or an iPad Pro.
There are three ports on the GoPower USB-C, including one power port, one MacBook port, and one USB port designed for other devices. There’s an LED status indicator that tells you how much power is left in the battery.
The GoPower USB-C is priced at $99.95.
