Gnarbox Review
Do you shoot a lot of HD footage on your camera or GoPro? Do you struggle to edit all that HD footage?
Gnarbox promises to solve these problems by allowing you to edit and organize 4K videos in minutes from your phone.
What Is Gnarbox?
Gnarbox is a pocket-sized device that may be the future of HD image/video editing. The device promises to make it easy to backup, organize, edit, and share photos or 4K videos in just minutes.
Best of all, you can do all of this on-the-go from your phone.
The creators of Gnarbox recently received $540,000 in preorders through Kickstarter earlier this year, so production on the device was completed over the past few months. Today, the Gnarbox is available for anyone to pre-order online.
The Gnarbox is marketed towards anyone who spends a lot of time editing or managing HD footage. Whether you use your GoPro to film yourself snowboarding or you just have a YouTube channel where you film yourself frequently, the Gnarbox promises to be your new best friend.
Let’s take a closer look at Gnarbox’s features and how it works.
Gnarbox Features
Typically, when you edit HD footage from a camera or GoPro, you need to plug the device into your computer, wait for everything to upload to your computer, back it up to an external drive, sort and organize it, and then begin editing. It’s a tedious process that has stayed pretty much the same since the beginning of time.
Gnarbox promises to solve these issues by introducing all of the following features:
-Wi-Fi Enabled: Gnarbox creates a mobile hotspot with your phone, letting you upload data quickly whether or not there’s service in the area. So if you’re in a remote mountaintop or beach, you can still use your Gnarbox. You can even run it off your cell phone data plan, too, if needed.
-Multiple Camera Inputs: Gnarbox comes with two USB ports, a full SD port and microport, so it will work with virtually every device you use. The card reader and USB port are able to handle compact flash cards as well.
-Quad Processing Chip: Gnarbox comes with a quad processing chip that allows for 4GB of data transfers every minute.
-Built-In Editing App: After you’ve uploaded your photos to the Gnarbox’s server, you connect your phone to view and edit the photos. This lets you trim clips, color correct data, crop, alter the frame rate, change aspect ratios, and more. It’s pretty much all of the same editing you would do on your laptop on the field – just from your mobile phone.
-Batch Editing: Save filter settings to apply them to a group of images. These filter settings are saved on the metadata layer, so you can easily remove them later if you want to return to the raw, original footage.
-Share Finished Footage Quickly: Your friends’ phones can connect to Gnarbox after you’re done editing, letting them download the images and videos. You can also connect Gnarbox to cloud storage units – like Google Drive or Dropbox – or most social platforms. Upload times are surprisingly fast, taking less than a minute to post one 50MB file.
-Durable and Waterproof: Like most devices that cater to extreme sports enthusiasts, Gnarbox is durable and water-resistant, surviving up to a meter underwater for up to 30 minutes. It’s also crush-resistant and shock-resistant to a 5 foot drop. It’s also sand and dustproof.
-Weight: 1 pound
-Battery Life: 6 to 8 hours with mixed usage
