The B-2 Nano Blade claims to be the world’s smallest tactical pocket knife. The knife recently launched on Kickstarter – and it’s already smashed through its fundraising target. Here’s our review.

What Is The B-2 Nano Blade?

The B-2 Nano Blade, also known as the B-2 Bomber Nano Blade, is a product that recently launched on Kickstarter. The knife launched with a humble fundraising goal of $5,000. At the time of writing, it had received nearly $300,000 in fundraising from over 5,000 backers with time to spare.

The knife claims to be the world’s smallest tactical pocket knife. It’s designed for everyday carry (EDC) use and comes with a lifetime warranty.

The B-2 Nano Blade is made by a San Francisco-based company named Bomber & Company. Although it looks like an ordinary knife, it’s also designed to help you start fires, cut paracord, and perform other survival activities. It’s a practical survival tool bundled into one bite-sized package.

On Kickstarter, the B-2 Nano Blade is priced at $25 with an estimated delivery date of February 2018. You can save money by buying multiple blades at a time.

B-2 Nano Blade Features

Bomber & Company claims they were inspired by the B-2 Stealth Bomber when designing the blade – which is where the name comes from. The company is led by Vincent Pilot Ng, a designer with 10 years of experience in the field. Before creating the B-2 Nano Blade, Ng created the Bomber Barrel Duffel Bag and Halo Belt.

With that in mind, here are some of the key features on the B-2 Nano Blade:

“Urban Military Concept”

Bomber & Company describes how all of their products “have a military design and tactical aesthetic” and that they’re designed to “hold durability and functionality similar to military grade equipment”.

A lot of companies like to toss around the term “military grade” and boast about how their products are used by real military and law enforcement – despite the lack of evidence. It’s refreshing to see Bomber & Company be more honest with their marketing.

Blade

The B-2 Nano Blade is split with a serrated edge as well as a sharp edge. The sharp edge is ideal for thin, sharp precision slices while the serrated edge is ideal for tougher materials – like wood – that needs to be sawed. The teeth on the blade uses a design called the “Great American Tooth” pattern, which was designed specifically to saw and rake wood fibers.

Another unique feature of the blade is that it’s perforated. There are three small holes on the non-cutting edge of the blade. These perforations allow the wielder to cut and slice materials so that they don’t stick to the blade, leading to a cleaner, sharper cut.

Size

The B-2 Nano Blade is one of the smallest tactical blades you can buy today. The blade has a full opened length (blade extended) of 80mm. When the blade is closed, it’s 48mm long, 20mm wide, and 5mm thick.

The creators of the blade recommend their product for concealment, saying, “The miniature size of the pocket knife means it can easily be hidden in any coin pocket or clipped onto keychains without notice.”

Weight

The B-2 Nano Blade has an ultralight weight. It weighs just 1oz. The company claims it’s the world’s “lightest, fully functional, 440C black stainless steel tactical pocket knife.”

Materials And Build

440C black stainless steel rated at 58-60HRC. 440C was picked as a material due to its durability and corrosion-resistance. The company claims it can “endure years of outdoor wear without extra maintenance to protect the blade from rusting.”

Casing Design

The B-2 Nano Blade is a fully-redesigned version of the vintage SR288 stock casing, which was a discontinued casing unit for blades between 5 and 9 inches. Bomber & Company downsized the case for the smaller form factor of the B-2 Bomber Nano Blade. The casing material, like the blade, consists of heat-treated 440C black stainless steel.

Folding And Locking

The B-2 Nano Blade locks and folds. The lock system uses a lever instead of a push button lock. You can use the spine of the knife to scrap splint without worrying about it coming around while the blade is locked.

In other words, you’re less likely to accidentally cut off your fingers. Bomber & Company describes the system as having “zero wiggle room” and “completely tight and will not move”. It was designed with safety in mind.

Overall, the creators of the B-2 Nano Blade describe the knife as “engineered to be very tactical”. It’s versatile – in that it can be used in survival situations or in self-defense situations. They describe their knife as “the world’s smallest and lightest tactical pocket knife ever to be created by mankind.”

Some of the potential uses for the knife include to cut open boxes, pry open cans, screw in loose screws, cut paracord, cut seat belts in emergencies, cut fruit and food, remove staples, carve wood, strip wire, or as teeth to start fires with tinder.

To be clear, the words “self-defense” are never mentioned on the B-2 Nano Blade sales page. However, “EDC” is mentioned – and many people “everyday carry” for self-defense reasons. So hey, it’s up to you how you use your knife.
