Do you ever lose your keys? KeeperKey wants to help protect your keys. Find out everything you need to know about the product today in our KeeperKey review.
What Is KeeperKey?
KeeperKey is an Israel-made product designed to keep track of your keys. The device attaches to your keyring like an ordinary key, then acts as your personal key guard.
The reason for KeeperKey is simple: when someone loses a wallet, you can get the wallet returned because there’s identifying information on the wallet – their ID card or driver’s license, for example. Car keys are different: there’s no identifying information, which makes it difficult to return car keys to the correct owner.
The other annoying part of losing car keys is that there’s no inherent value in car keys: if you find someone’s car keys, but don’t know where their car is parked, then the car keys aren’t useful – even if you’re a thief.
To ensure car keys can always be traced back to their owner, KeeperKey has collaborated with some of the world’s leading automotive companies – including Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, and more.
How Does KeeperKey Work?
KeeperKey works like this:
- The customer receives a trademarked holder that has a PIN code stamped on it as a way to find the keys
- The customer activates their KeeperKey by sending an SMS with his/her name and the PIN to the KeeperKey system (it can also be activated on-site immediately after your purchase, or with a call to the KeeperKey call center)
- Whoever finds the keys can call the number on the KeeperKey holder; the call center answers, and the center calls the owner of the vehicle
- The call center sends a courier to collect the keys, then delivers it back to the customer in a safe and efficient manner
Using this system, the owner of the vehicle never has to meet the person who found the keys. As the KeeperKey website explains, they do not meet “for security reasons and the details of the owner of the keys are kept secret”.
Who Uses KeeperKey?
KeeperKey’s official site claims that over 2000 of their customers have lost their keys.
So far, the company has an average return time of 4 hours. That’s from the time of loss until finding and restoring the keys to their original owner.
KeeperKey claims this leads to an average savings of 1500 hours instead of manually restoring your lost car keys – say, if you went to a mechanic or dealer.

KeeperKey Summary
KeeperKey is an Israel-based company dedicated to helping people find lost car keys as soon as possible. When you find a set of car keys, it’s often impossible to trace the keys back to the owner – there’s rarely identifying information on someone’s keys.
KeeperKey is a system that places a small keytag on your keys. When someone finds your keys, they can call the number on the keys to talk to the call center. The call center dispatches a courier to the finder’s location, then returns the keys to the original owner. The owner of the vehicle and the finder never have to meet.
So far, KeeperKey appears to only be available in Israel. We’ll keep you posted if the technology expands outside of Israel in the near future.
