Primitive Survivors XT808 Tactical Flashlight Review

The XT808 LED Flashlight is a new tactical flashlight from Primitive Survivors that claims to be bright enough to blind a bear. Here’s our XT808 LED Flashlight review.

What is the XT808 LED Flashlight?

The XT808 LED Flashlight is one of many tactical flashlights that have hit the market in recent weeks. The flashlight, like many of its competitors, makes bold claims about its benefits. It claims to be bright enough to blind a bear (indicating its effectiveness for practical self-defense in your case), for example, and claims to be actively used by official military and police personnel around the world. While this might be flowery marketing tactics, what seems to be the case is they do possess all of these specific properties and functions but will come with a pretty penny price tag.

The XT808 LED Flashlight says it is the “the only flashlight used in the field”. It also claims to output a strategically-blinding 800 lumens of light, which is the industry standard set forth by the Shadowhawk Tactical X800. Those are some bold and bright claims, so let’s take a closer look at the military grade technology used in the designing and making of the XT808 LED Flashlight.

How Does the XT808 LED Flashlight Work?

The Primitive Survivors' XT808 LED Flashlight comes with the following features:

  • 5.1 inches long (extends to 6.18 inches)
  • Adjustable focusing beam with up to 2000x focus
  • High, Medium, Low, SOS, and Strobe light modes
  • Made from aircraft-grade aluminum alloy
  • Waterproof and scratch resistant lens
  • Cree XM-L LED emitter
  • 100,000 lamp life with a few rechargeable batteries

That “Cree XM-L LED emitter” part is important: it’s the same LED emitter we’ve seen on dozens of other flashlights that recently hit the market.

In fact, every single one of these flashlights seems to carry an identical design to the XT808 LED Flashlight. They have the same beveled edge and the same aircraft-grade aluminum frame. For all intents and purposes, these flashlights all seem to be the same device.

The only real difference between the XT808 LED Flashlight and the dozens of similar flashlights is that the XT808 is branded by Primitive Survivors, an online survival company with a specialization in lighting gadgets and tactical gizmos. We’ll talk more about them down below.

Primitive Survivors' XT808 LED Flashlight Pricing

The XT808 LED Flashlight is advertised online as being 75% off. All across the internet, you’ll see ads claiming that this exclusive offer won’t last forever, and that you just stumbled across the offer at the right time.

In reality, we’ve never found a place where the XT808 LED Flashlight isn’t sold for 75% off.

In other words, the 75% off price appears to be the normal retail price for the XT808 LED Flashlight. So don’t feel like you’ve stumbled across something exclusive to you – and don’t feel rushed into making a rash purchase decision.

Some 75% off offer pages for the XT808 flashlight feature a countdown timer counting down to some mysterious release date. In reality, the XT808 flashlight is currently sold online at the following rates:

  • -1 Flashlight: $56
  • -2 Flashlights: $97
  • -3 Flashlights: $134
  • -4 Flashlights: $169
  • -5 Flashlights: $196

This pricing model seems to vary slightly between manufacturers. But for the most part, you’re paying between $40 and $60 for the XT808 and all similar flashlights.

The flashlight is currently only sold online through the official website.

Is this Flashlight Really Used by Military Personnel?

The XT808 LED Flashlight claims that it’s the “only one used in the field” and makes numerous references to military personnel, police forces, and other professions that use the XT808 LED Flashlight on a daily basis.

In fact, the main sales copy for XT808 LED Flashlight even mentions that the XT808 flashlight has been featured in Army Veterans and Military Veterans. There are no websites or magazines with either of these names, so it’s unclear where the XT808 flashlight was used or featured.

Nevertheless, a search for XT808 with either “Army Veterans” or “Military Veterans” turns up no results. We could also find no evidence that any military forces use the XT808 in the world today. So if you’re buying this flashlight because you want to use the flashlight used by real military or police, then you’ll need to keep searching.

Who Makes the XT808 LED Flashlight?

The XT808 LED Flashlight is made by an outdoor gear company named Primitive Survivors. That company claims to “provide all the necessities required for any man, woman or child to survive in the wilderness.” Those products include a wide range of survival tools, gear, and flashlights.

In addition to selling the XT808 LED Flashlight, the company sells the 5.11 SR H3 Headlamp ($74.99), the 5.11 TMT L2 Flashlight ($84.99), and the Gerber Infinity LED Light ($28.36).

Primitive Survivors does not list its address or contact information online. The only listed contact information is this email form.

Should You Buy the XT808 LED Flashlight?

The XT808 LED Flashlight appears to be a good flashlight: it’s waterproof, outputs 800 lumens of light, and is made from aircraft-grade aluminum (which is actually the same aluminum you see on bike tires and golf clubs, so it’s not quite as impressive as it sounds).

The only real issue with XT808 LED Flashlight is its price: the price is advertised at 75% off the normal retail price. However, similar flashlights that feature the same Cree XM-L T6 LED emitter are sold on Amazon for as little as $10 to $20.

So if you think you’re getting some crazy good deal with the 75% off offer, then that does not appear to be the case.

Still, if you’re willing to pay for premium high-performance tactical flashlight, then the XT808 LED Flashlight may be the right option for you.
