MilTac Flashlight Review

MilTac is a recently-released military flashlight that promises to be the best, most powerful self-defense flashlight you’ll ever own. Here’s our MilTac review (which is also called and branded under the names MiTact and MilTact).

What Is The MilTac Flashlight?

The MilTac™ flashlight calls itself a “military inspired tactical flashlight”. The flashlight features modes like high power, low power, strobe, and SOS. It’s available online for $55.

There’s not a lot of information about the MilTac LED flashlight available online. So in our review, we’re going to explain everything you need to know about this new product and compare it to popular military-grade LED flashlights like the Lumitact G700Shadowhawk X800 and Hybeam Flashlight.

MilTac Flashlight Features

-Made from “machined aircraft aluminum”

-Uses 3 x AAA batteries

-Weighs 7 ounces

-Has 5 modes, including high, middle, low, strobe, and SOS

What Does It Mean to Be Made From Aircraft Aluminum?

Aircraft are made from an aluminum alloy called 6061 aluminum alloy.

Now, when a flashlight claims that it’s made from aircraft aluminum, it obviously sounds very impressive.

But what if I told you that exact same aluminum alloy is used to make the aluminum cans you find at a grocery store? Or the aluminum cans you drink beer out of?

Yes, that aluminum alloy is exceptionally popular across multiple manufacturing sectors. It’s also used to make fly fishing reels, bicycle frames, and silencers for firearms.

The fact that the flashlight is made from aircraft aluminum is certainly impressive, but it’s not quite as impressive as advertising that it’s made from “beer can aluminum” – even though both statements are accurate.

Is the MilTac Really Used by Military Professionals Around the World?

Depending on where you learned about the MilTac flashlight, you might see enormous claims about the fact that it’s used by military forces or emergency response crews around the world.

Despite these claims, we could find no evidence that the MilTac flashlight is used by soldiers, police officers, fire crews, or any other emergency personnel in any country in the world today.

It’s possible that the flashlight is licensed under another name to military personnel. However, cops and soldiers typically purchase flashlights from more mainstream brands like Pelican, Streamlight, and Surefire, where even the cheapest flashlights start at around $70 USD (and the most expensive, 4500 lumen flashlights are priced at $2,820).

So if you’re buying the MilTac because you want to think you’re a cop or a soldier, then you should probably keep shopping.

Can You Actually Use It for Self Defense?

The MilTac product description features no information about its brightness (which is typically given in lumens). This makes it difficult to determine if it’s actually bright enough to blind an attacker or be used effectively for self-defense.

What we do know about the MilTac flashlight is its weight, which clocks in at 7 ounces.

Now, that weight is great if you’re looking for something light to carry around with you. But if you’re using it for self-defense – which is something advertised by certain descriptions of the product – then 7 ounces is not a lot of weight to effectively damage someone.

7 ounces is about 200 grams. Some bags of peanuts weigh more than 7 ounces. Think of the feeling when you pick up a full 12 ounce can of beer. That’s nearly twice as much weight (when you add the weight of the can) as this flashlight.

So even with the “beveled edge for self defense”, you’re not going to have much luck against an attacker. Your best bet is to try to temporarily blind them with the flashlight’s beam.

MilTac Pricing

MilTac heavily promotes a 75% discount offer online. The company claims that the flashlight’s regular price is $220. However, we could find no evidence of that price online. For all intents and purposes, the 75% discount offer seems like the only price you can pay for the MilTac flashlight.

In other words, don’t be tricked into thinking you’ve stumbled upon some amazing discount: $55 is still a good chunk of change to pay for a 7 ounce flashlight.

With that in mind, here’s how the pricing breaks down:

-1 Flashlight: $55

-2 Flashlights: $96

-3 Flashlights: $132

-5 Flashlights: $195

-10 Flashlights: $340

-15 Flashlights: $495

-20 Flashlights: $640

The lowest bulk discount price you can get is $32, which is the price you pay when you’re buying 20 flashlights at the same time.

All prices include shipping.

Also Known as the MiliTact Flashlight or the MiTact Flashlight

Depending on where you see this offer posted, it might be called the “MiliTact” flashlight or the “MiTact” flashlight. The two flashlights have similar names and identical features. So for all intents and purposes, this MilTac review applies to the MiliTact flashlight and MiTact flashlight as well.

Who Makes the MilTac Flashlight?

The MilTac flashlight is made by a company named Lead Intention, Inc.

You can contact the company at support@militaryflashlight.com. The company lists its address as the following:

1732 1st Ave #28592

New York, NY 10128

Interestingly enough, the contact email address listed above directs you to a company named Phantom Products, Inc., which calls itself a “third generation, family-owned American made lighting company”. It’s unclear if Lead Intention, Inc. is affiliated with Phantom Products, Inc. in any way.

Ultimately, whether you call it the MilTac flashlight, the MiliTact flashlight, or the MiTac flashlight, this flashlight makes bold promises about its benefits and value as a self-defense tool. If you’re willing to pay $55 for a flashlight, you can certainly find stronger, more durable, brighter flashlights on the market. But for its cheap price range, the MilTac flashlight isn’t a bad option.
