Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX Leaked

The Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX are going to be released by Samsung later this year. Thanks to a leak, we now know more about both the Gear Fit 2 and the Gear IconX.

Images Leaked Onto S Health Website

Samsung leaked the images onto the S Health website, where both wearable fitness trackers look pretty much like people expected.

What Is the Gear Fit 2?

The Gear Fit 2 is a wearable fitness tracker that aims to improve on the original Gear Fit. It purportedly has a 1.84 inch AMOLED display and GPS tracking built-in.

The leaked image appears to show a new textured strap along with a curvier, sleeker design than the original Gear Fit.

The built-in GPS tracking will set the Gear Fit 2 apart from many of its competitors. Many fitness trackers rely on your phone’s GPS to provide accurate location data and distance information. On the Gear Fit 2, you’ll be able to track this without carrying around your phone.

That should put the Gear Fit 2 in direct competition with the Microsoft Band 2, which is one of the few other wearables on the market that packs its own GPS.

What Is the Gear IconX?

The IconX is a set of wireless earbuds that is rumored to come with touchpad controls, fitness tracking, and 4GB of storage to play music on the go.

Basically, it’s a music player and fitness tracker device that fits inside your ears without any wires. It’s expected to be water and dust resistant. It should also come with a charging case.

What Else Do We Know?

Soon after the first images of the devices leaked onto Samsung’s S Health website, noted leaker Evan Blass of @EVLeaks fame appeared to have gotten hold of some of his own images of the Gear Fit.

Blass’s leak claims that the second generation Gear Fit will come in black, pink, and blue options. His leaked images suggest that the Gear Fit 2 will come with an altimeter allowing you to track elevation – something now all fitness trackers have. If you’ve ever been frustrated by the inaccuracy of your fitness tracker when you’re climbing mountains or running stairs, then the altimeter on the Gear Fit 2 is a welcome change.

Some rumors claim that Samsung will use its Tizen operating system on these devices. Tizen is currently available on the Gear S2 smartwatch, where it’s performed well and attracted good reviews.

The Gear Fit 2 is also expected to come with all of the features found on the original Gear Fit, including a heart rate monitor and a curved AMOLED display. That tracker didn’t receive great reviews due to its odd choice of a RT OS (real time operating system), poor battery life, and poor sensor accuracy. Some people even thought the original Gear Fit was so bad that Samsung was going to abandon the lineup altogether.

Clearly, that isn’t the case, and we’ll see a Gear Fit 2 sometime in the near future (the release date for both the Gear Fit 2 and IconX is expected to be later in 2016). We’ll keep you posted as more news about the Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX appears online over the next few weeks.
